Text interviews

How much are you satisfied with the subtitles in movies made by translators?

David Felipe Arias

Translation ll

"Personally, I think most of the movies are understandable with the subtitles that are usually used by the translators, but in some other movies I find moments when the idea they are intending to transmit, is not developed in a correct way. The translators could use some different terms that are far easier to understand for the viewers, without changing the original idea that is shown in the films."

What do you think about translation made by non-native speakers?

Erick Mauricio Cardenas

Translation ll

"Knowing the grammatical rules and the equivalent vocabulary of a word do not mean that a translated text can be understand and the message of the author would remain the same. Inside each language there are expressions and words that without understanding the society which they belong the reader will not identify the complete meaning of a text. For these reasons, in my opinion, a non-native translator that knows the culture and the historical background of the language that he wants to translate can identify in a proper way the message of the text, matching the vocabulary of the work with similar expressions of his own culture and making easier the purpose of the text."

What do you think are the most common mistakes that can be found in subtitled movies?

Mauricio Molina

Translation ll

"The use of idiomatic expressions of the country in which the subtitles are made, for example, most of the subtitles are made in mexico, and they use their own spanish expressions to make jokes that can not be understand if they are left like it was originally intended in english."
