ANABEL BORJA

Anabel Borja was born in Spain/1962 Her Areas of expertise are: Legal translation and translation training.Actually,she is Head of the translation Department of Jaume I University,Spain,where she teaches legal translation and co-ordinates research in the field of legal translation ,genre analysis and expert knowledge management systems for specialized translation.

WHO IS SHE?

Anabel Borja is a sworn official translator appointed by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and has worked as an in-house and freelance translator for publishers, multinational companies, law firms, notaries and the Spanish Courts of Justice.

 

Originally trained as a linguist (BA in Anglo-German Studies, UV), she gained her PhD in Translation (UAB) and holds a Masters Degree in Business Law (UV), a Postgraduate Degree in University Training (UV) and a Diploma in International Commerce (CEI).

ACADEMIC CAREER

She is currently Senior Lecturer in Legal Translation at Universitat Jaume I, Castellón, where she coordinates the legal translation section of the GENTT Research Group. She also teaches legal translation at postgraduate level at different universities.

Her research interests include the comparative analysis and classification of legal texts through the use of electronic corpora based on the concept of genre; genre convention analysis; contrastive textology and comparative law for legal translation research; and legal translation teaching strategies.

THEORY

LEGAL TRANSLATION

Borja says that legal translation requires exact precision, authenticity and a deep understanding of various national law systems as these documents are used in different legal procedures.

For doing a translation is necessary: Analyze the original text and its functions or objectives. Domain in the subject. Classification of legal text by genres. Domain of legal terminology. Acquire competence in the legal language.
